THE CHARTER SUBSCRIPTION MODEL (a.k.a. Indie Music Angels!)

This financing model allows independent artists to garner funds ahead of time rather than going into debt (or indentured service to the bank or big music) and trying to play catch-up later. It’s much like the community share approach some local and organic farmers have turned to, with the shares in culture rather than agriculture. Once again, I am asking you, the fans and friends, to invest in my creative endeavor. There are a number of components to making an album: writing, producing and recording being the first half (delivering the baby) and marketing and promotion the second half (feeding and raising the baby). When you become a Charter Subscriber, you become part of the village raising the child. The details of what you can expect in return – along with a brand new Cara Luft album – are listed above, arranged on a sliding scale. Just so you know, there are no tax receipts for this donation. I greatly appreciate whatever contribution you can make.

The amount I am aiming to raise here represents 1/2 of the total budget (recording, mixing, mastering, marketing & promotion). Between loans, savings, pre-orders, charter subscribers and indie music angels I hope to reach my budget. If you would prefer a hard-copy of the pre-order form, email me & and I can send one to you: cara@caraluft.com

ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE...

Like the earth, I have been feeling the creative energy that animates the universe and seeks to express itself in all of us in different ways. This rejuvenation is no accident. Things have been go! go! go! in the four years since the release of "The Light Fantastic", but lately I’ve been sitting still, creating, living life with all its ups and down – and the time has come to share these new stories and new songs.

Many of you (over 100 individuals) were Charter Subscribers for the last album.
It is the support of the Charter Subscribers, gift givers, and lenders, which helped to realize the success of “The Light Fantastic.” Among other things, the album was #3 on the EarShot radio charts in Canada for 2007 (Roots recording); a single was added for rotation on AAA Radio in the USA (everywhere from Anchorage to Portland to Martha’s Vineyard to Pittsburgh to Boston); and the album gave me a touring foothold in the Netherlands, UK, and Germany.

The new album will be more raw and stripped down, and much of it will be recorded in alternative spaces (churches, houses, art studios, etc). Aesthetically, this will allow the power of simplicity to shine through, while financially, it’s more feasible and responsible. And it suits my mood. When the album comes out, I will, of course, be back on the road, since touring and live performances are hands-down the best way to share a new project.

Regardless of whether or not you are able to offer financial assistance, your support and encouragement continue to mean the world to me, and I want to thank you for that. You’ve listened to my songs, you’ve bought my records, you’ve come to my concerts, you’ve made my music career possible. You are part of why the hard work, sweat, and tears are worth it; you are part of the web the universe weaves through music. Thank you thank you thank you!
