Friends, Family and Opera lovers ~ Hello All!
I'm Jennifer Sproule, Mezzo Soprano currently living in Calgary Alberta, Canada.
As of May 2011, I completed my first year in the Emerging Artist Development Program with Calgary Opera. For those who are not familiar...the program is designed for singers beginning a professional operatic career and requires that applicants demonstrate exceptional operatic and theatrical skills as evidence of their prior training and experience. Out of hundreds of applicants only eight singers, two of each voice type, are chosen per year. (For more details go to www.calgaryopera.com) .
After an inspirational year, including my first main stage role at Calgary Opera, first role in a World Premier, performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and an Alberta school tour, I continued the ball rolling this summer by recording eight opera tracks in Toronto! I was thrilled to be asked back for a second season with Calgary Opera and therefore I will continue as an emerging artist until May 2012. During this second year I will be performing title role in Ariodante, singing 3rd Lady in The Magic Flute, understudying Musetta in La Boheme, learning two complete roles of my choice, and singing at the many and varied community events around Calgary.
My year will also consist of a focus on breaking out onto the opera scene at the conclusion of the program. The biggest piece of the puzzle that I am missing right now is the "People hearing me" or "People knowing I exist" piece. Therefore my first plan is to do an audition tour in the Fall 2012.
To make this happen I need your help. Right now funding is the only thing stopping me from getting out there and auditioning! Your financial support will help to cover some of the costs of accompanists, coachings, application fees, transportation, food, and accommodation on the road.
Here is the list of companies I plan to sing for: Vancouver Opera, Opera Atelier (Toronto), Opera Lyra (Ottawa), Edmonton Opera, Manitoba Opera, Canadian Opera Company (Toronto), Pacific Opera Victoria, Opera Hamilton, Queen of Puddings (Toronto), L'opera De Montreal.
Along with Opera companies I also plan to sing for the symphony orchestra conductors in: Edmonton, Manitoba, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Regina, Ottawa, and Victoria. I also have contacts in New York who have strongly recommended that I come down to do auditions there.
While on tour I will be keeping my contributors updated with private behind-the-scenes video and email updates. Follow along and see what the audition process is like for an emerging artist and aspiring opera star! I also am offering a variety of other gifts to show my appreciation.
