Dear best pals,
Normally, I hit you up for annual donations for charity rides or charity walks or charity hopscotch, and you have always given generously. Thank you. Now I'm asking you to invest in me.
I was recently accepted into the Transom Storytelling Workshop, an eight-week program for beginner public radio producers in Woods Hole, Mass. Basically, I'd like to somehow meld my love of humor with my love of storytelling with my love of my own voice, and this program seems the perfect means to that end.
But it's not cheap. I need to come up with $5500 by the end of February. I will be financing at least a fifth of the program's fees myself and I have received a non-degree grant, but that won't be enough to cover it. I'm hoping that you will consider donating a bit of your spare change to my cause. Think of it as community supported journalism/storytelling.
What you will get out of donating: Um, honestly, not much, apart from the knowledge that you have helped me on my career journey. My bottomless gratitude. And a warm fuzzy (which may be sent by mail if I have your address).
What I will get out of you donating: A tremendous opportunity. A sense that people believe in me. And a big warm fuzzy.
That should just about do it. I hope you consider donating. I'll try to do you proud. Thanks.
With gratitude,
Lauren O.
